Par-3, Nine-hole Golf Courses Site Selected.
The 25-acre site located adjacent to City Hall formerly known as Claude
Hamilton farm site. This site continues the "central town" theme city
leaders are trying to instill. There will be two tee-box locations at each
hole to give
the
option of an 18-hole course. There will also be an underground sprinkler
system and a small clubhouse where an attendant could accept greens fees and
"perhaps" offer some items like golf balls and tees for sale. We hope to
begin fairway work this fall, so we can open by summer next year. At the
recently purchased Plattner site a disc (Frisbee) golf course and hiking
trails are planned.
Park Committee Moves
Ahead on Golf Course. Golf course
designer Larry Flatt, of Flatt Golf Services, Inc., recently
returned from Westchester, N.Y., were he visited a course that
employs artificial turf.
I hit a 60-yard sand wedge, and the ball went
about two feet, just like it should, Flatt said. It really plays
like natural turf ... except you don't have the ball marks.
Aquatic Facility
J.H. Williamson Drive
The groundbreaking ceremony
for the new Aquatic Facility, which is to be located on the left hand side
of J. H. Williamson Drive, near the St. Robert Municipal Park, was held on
March 15, 2010. Bales Construction is the general contractor in charge
of construction of the Aquatics Facility. The entire project is expected to
be completed by March 2011. Plans currently are to have indoor facilities
open later this year and the outdoor facility on opening on Memorial Day
weekend 2011.
